This course is award by

STA Level 2 Safety Award for Teachers

Training for the STA Level 2 Safety Award for Teachers course takes place for a minimum of 6 hours with an assessment that concludes the course.


It determines a candidate's  the candidate's ability to act as a rescuer, trained in pool rescue, 


adult, child and infant CPR techniques competent to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with The HSE Publication Managing health and safety in swimming pools and British Standard BS EN 15288 swimming pools Part 2, safety requirements for operations. It will suit candidates who require a prerequisite lifesaving qualification for all STA swimming teaching courses. 


What to Expect on the Course 


There is a mixture of classroom based and water based learning. The course involves a lot of moving around working on skills such as first aid, CPR and understanding Health and Safety requirements. We, therefore, suggest you wear clothes which are suitable for this purpose.


One the course please bring with you the following items: Please bring with you:

  • Swimming kit to include T-shirt and shorts or trousers
  • Pen and paper
  • A packed lunch

Your course manual will be provided on the course. This consists of various questions that will be completed throughout the day. These will be checked by the course tutor.

Regulated by Ofqual and Qualifications Wales

Will give you the confidence and knowledge to deal with an emergency that may occur during swimming lessons.


Examination process


The course tutor will evaluate all teachers on the skills throughout the Safety Award for Teachers course on their practical skills and help to complete a portfolio of evidence.'


Prerequisites


You’ll need to make sure you’ve met the following requirements before you attend your course:

Be at least 14 years of age

  • Be able to swim 25 metres
  • Learners who cannot swim 25 metres must be capable of wading, and effecting a rescue, in a pool with a depth no greater than chest height
  • Be able to surface dive and recover an object from the deepest part of the pool
