This course is award by

STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming .

Training for the Level 2 Certificate in Swim Teaching takes place for a minimum of 28 hours with an assessment that concludes the course. Progress on your teaching pathway with the STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming—the next step which meets CIMSPA’s employer-led swimming teacher professional standard.


The qualification will expand your expertise to teach:

  • Competitive strokes
  • Survival and rescue skills
  • Diving
  • Competitive starts and turns; 
  • allowing you to teach non-swimmers through to advanced participants.

What to Expect on the Course


There is a mixture of classroom based and water based learning. The course involves a lot of moving around working on skills such as stroke demonstrations, understanding Health and Safety requirements and teaching practices and points. We, therefore, suggest you wear clothes which are suitable for this purpose.


On the course please bring with you the following items: Please bring with you:

  • Swimming kit to include T-shirt and shorts or trousers
  • Pen and paper
  • A packed lunch

Examination process


The STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming is tutor assessed through the completion of worksheets, schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation forms and practical teaching.


In addition to this, there is an external assessment of a 30-minute practical lesson on the final day of the course. This is assessed by an independent examiner 


Any learners who feel they are unable or will struggle with the above should contact our education and training team to discuss the additional support that we can put in place to help them to complete the course. 


Prerequisites

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Hold current membership of STA 
  • Hold the STA Award in Teaching Swimming qualification or acceptable equivalent (please note the Swim England Level 1 Award in Aquatic Teaching is not an acceptable pre-requisite)

If you need a course run and would like it run at your venue please get in contact we can send a tutor to run, organise and arrange the course you need at your venue. We offer a range of different options to get your course running.

Our most popular package is our free spaces. We take on the administration of the course, bookings, marketing and everything in between. We offer you spaces on the course for free in return for free use of the facilities. This gets your staff trained and keeps the cost down for external users.
